A RELATIVELY NEW young London-born writer takes centre stage in our review of the latest books to hit the Library shelves. Rod Reynolds had a successful career in advertising for many years and completed his first novel while studying on a two-year Crime Writing Masters course at the City University.
His debut book, The Dark Inside, was set in 1946 Texarkana, a town on the border of Texas and Arkansas, and introduced us to Charlie Yates, a reporter sent to cover a spate of brutal murders. His follow-up work, Black Night Falling, takes place a few months later back in Arkansas.
Rod still lives in London with his wife and two daughters. He is also the son-in-law of one of our volunteers.
Black Night Falling
by Rod Reynolds
REYNOLDS SET THE BAR extraordinarily high with The Dark Inside, and this second offering, Black Night Falling, more than lives up to the promise, again displaying a remarkable feel for post-war America.
Having left Texarkana for the safety of the West Coast, reporter Charlie Yates finds himself drawn back to the South, to Hot Springs, Arkansas, as an old acquaintance asks for his help.
This time it’s less of a story Charlie’s chasing, more of a desperate attempt to do the right thing before it’s too late…
