THE FEVERISHLY-DEBATED DECISION behind The Washington Post’s 1971 publication of top-secret information in the Pentagon Papers is dramatically brought to life in the multi award-winning movie The Post, in which Meryl Streep plays legendary publisher Katharine Graham and Tom Hanks takes on the role of the gruff but brilliant executive editor Ben Bradlee.
As Graham, Streep plays a leader who decides to publish the incendiary information about the Vietnam War amid great pressure, in both directions, from government officials, her lawyers and many of her own fellow board members.
This is every bit as compelling a story as All The Presidents Men, which exposed the Watergate scandal and caused Richard Nixon’s resignation, only this time The Post is exposing 30 years of Government lies and cover-ups spanning six US presidents.
The Post is our next Film Club screening, on Thursday, May 31st, starting at 2pm. Film Club screenings are strictly for members only and there is no charge for admission. There is, however, a small charge for refreshments, which will be available during the interval.
