Summer has flown by and the Library is already welcoming back our winter ‘swallows’. It’s good to see so many familiar faces returning to the island.
The good news for the returnees is that there is no increase in membership fees this year. A reminder to everyone that fees are now due, €35 for single members and €45 for double membership.
We will be offering our usual range of social activities in the coming months, starting with a Garden Party to mark and celebrate the platinum wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Phillip.
Throughout the afternoon a DVD will be playing showing the wedding day and the beautiful dress designed by Norman Hartnell, for which even Princess Elizabeth, as she was then, had to save clothing coupons in order to purchase the material.
Their 70 years of marriage is a remarkable achievement, so come and join the celebrations to mark this special occasion. The Library’s usual excellent buffet and refreshments will be on offer, all for the princely sum of €10. Mark the date in your diary, Thursday November 23, with a 1.30 for 2pm start. As ever, please book at the Treasurer’s desk.
It’s only a few weeks away so it’s timely to mention one of our most popular events of the year, the annual Christmas Lunch. Thursday December 14, starting at 1pm for 1.30 is the date, and the Masaru in La Paz is the venue. Book now at the Treasurer’s desk because this lunch always sells out quickly. Attendance is €16 per head.
Visitors are always welcome to join us during our opening hours, Mondays and Fridays 3pm-5.30 and Wednesday and on Saturdays 10pm-1pm. Refreshments are served in the garden on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
