Library members celebrate the Queen’s birthday
THE QUEEN’S 90th birthday was celebrated in true British style at a sell-out Garden Party held in the grounds of the English Library in Puerto de la Cruz.
Everyone joined in the spirit of the day by donning suitably patriotic red, white and blue attire and a great afternoon was enjoyed by all. A big vote of thanks goes to the many people behind the scenes who helped to make it such a success.
David Ward, a retired former British Consul in Tenerife and former Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, stepped in to propose the Loyal Toast.
A Royal Hats competition attracted a large entry and the judges deliberated long and hard before declaring the colourful creations of Maggie Knight and Tony Colmans the winners of their respective ladies’ and men’s section.
The afternoon concluded with some rousing patriotic community singing conducted by Colin Price and his ensemble of singers.

Register to vote in EU referendum
MORE THAN a thousand British expats per day in Spain are going online to the UK government webpage where Brits can register to vote in the EU referendum.
The British Ambassador Simon Manley has described the strong interest among British expats in voting in the referendum as ‘very encouraging’.
Speaking to partners of the British Consulate and local authority foreigners’ departments, who are helping to spread the voter registration message, Mr Manley said: “The Foreign Office is supporting the Electoral Commission’s campaign to encourage Brits overseas to register to vote and I’m pleased that so many are already preparing to exercise their democratic right.
And the winner is…
THE LIBRARY Christmas Raffle was drawn on Saturday, with the star prize of a Kindle going to Ruth Brown.
She is pictured (centre) being presented with it by Library President Brian Arnold and Secretary Jane Stewart.
A big thank you goes to everyone who bought tickets. Your contributions are very important – without them there would not be a library.
